Norway 2012

Sunday 20th May.

We found our allocated seats on the train out of Oslo and enjoyed the ride. The scenery was totally different to anything in Western Australia. Plenty of water, everything was green and mountains in the background.

After leaving suburban Oslo we passed through agricultural areas with many small farms. The houses were brightly painted with steep roofs, some of which were covered in turf.

It was obvious that we were travelling up into the high country. A few patches of snow started to appear which was quite exciting to us Flatlanders from WA who, up until now, had never seen snow.

At one small station some girls got on board with their skis, dressed in their warm skiing clothes. They were just bursting with vitality: tall, blond, slim. Compared to our local girls who are just, well, bursting !!

The train had a cafeteria carriage where we got some coffee and sandwiches for lunch. It was all very civilised.

We arrived in Voss and walked to the hotel. Our trip notes said the entrance to Fleischer's Hotel was just a short walk. It certainly was. The rail tracks were on one side of the platform and the hotel door was on the other. Easy peasy. We were here for two nights and what a beautiful place.
