Norway 2012

Friday 25th May

Kristiansund-Trondheim-Rorvik

Today our excursion was a  guided walk through Trondheim. It was a cool overcast day and we set a brisk pace covering about 7 kms. Most of this was on cobblestones which was quite tiring after a couple of hours.

Construction of Trondheim's Nidaros Cathedral began in 1070 and was finished around 1300. It has a tumultuous history. Almost totally burned down in 1708 and again in 1719. Rebuilding, restoration and maintenance began in 1869 and is an ongoing process.

I think several different brickies worked on this wall.

A most unhappy gargoyle.

These old canal-side buildings are restaurants and shops.

Back to our ship, the Nordnorge at midday.

We came quite close while passing through some narrow sections heading north.

Saturday 26th May

Bronnoysund-Bodo-Stamsund-Svolvaer

Passing over the Arctic Circle, our next excursion was the Glacier Adventure at Svartisen.

Another cold day. However our spirits lifted when we arrived at the restaurant and enjoyed some nice hot coffee, bread and cheese and cakes.

This is one finger of the glacier and looked very impressive.

On the way back to our ship the crew was able to handfeed some seagulls.

Some beautifully rugged coastline.

Back to some warmth.
